Absence Management Week round-up

By October 13, 2017Advice, News

It’s Friday, so here’s the best of what we’ve been sharing during our week dedicated to managing workplace absence:

Questions of the Day

Louise from Deminos answered some common questions often asked by managers regarding sickness absence. Click the links below to see what she had to say…

What should you do if you don’t believe an employee is genuinely ill?

Can an employee work elsewhere whilst on sick leave?

Can an employee take annual leave while on long-term sick?

World Mental Health Day

Tuesday was the 25th World Mental Health Day, with this year’s theme being mental health in the workplace. We spoke to consultant psychiatrist Dr. Nicola Baylis, who very kindly gave us her top five tips for looking after mental health at work.

In addition, we also offer a free trial of our Stress Management course to help employers spot the signs of stress amongst their staff so they can work to reduce it.

What’s in the news?

It’s been a busy news week relating to HR, with job losses at BAE Systems and Royal Mail doing their best to halt industrial action.

BAE Systems to cut nearly 2,000 UK jobs

Royal Mail halts 48-hour walkout after obtaining high court injunction

A quarter of UK workers say they would have to be hospitalised before they took a sick day

For lots more HR and employment law news, see the Deminos blog.

That’s it for this week, but remember we can be followed/liked on social media for more articles, news and HR advice.

Have a great weekend,

The Deminos Team
